Purgo / Anker Macbook Hub
★★★★★ - Outstanding!
Very portable, lots of connectivity, plug-and-play - a must-have accessory.
Pros
Very small and light, fits almost anywhere
No external cables or plugs, entirely self-contained
Pricing is reasonable for a USB hub ($44 at time of writing, I actually spent $68 for it in 2019)
Looks sleek and like an Apple product
Cons
Macbook-specific (make sure your model matches, might not work for newer model Macbooks)
Purgo version out of stock? (only gold was available when I checked)
Not externally powered (so it won’t be able to power high-drain accessories)
Review
It looks like the Purgo version might be out of stock (I did buy it 5 years ago), but Anker appears to have an identical model (perhaps picked it up from Purgo) for the same price. While I can’t directly recommend it, between the brand and the design I would consider the Anker version a safe buy.
This has been in my computer bag for (…checks order history…) 5 years across two Macbooks. It is so small and yet so versatile that I consider a must-buy for Macbook owners. It expands your two USB-C ports to also include two USB-A 3.0 ports, a micro SD slot, a standard SD slot, and an HDMI output. It is rare that I find myself needing anything else, though as USB-C continues to become more standard you may want to look into some cheap USB-A-to-C adapters.
There’s really not much more to say about it - it’s easy, tiny, and reasonably-priced.
Conclusion
A must-have accessory for Macbook owners.
