Logitech Pebble Mouse
★★★★★ - Outstanding!
Slim, quiet clicks, amazing battery life, great connectivity
Edit: The mouse click has lost some sensitivity in the past week. Others have reported this problem and recommended adding oil. It took a week or so, but the clicking did get better again.
Pros
Takes up very little space
Clicking is shockingly quiet yet still tactile
Connects to 2 (Pebble) / 3 (Pebble 2) BT devices
Has a built-in USB wireless adapter
18-month (Pebble) / 2-year (Pebble 2) battery
Optical sensor works great on most surfaces
Symmetric design for lefties
Good price ($26 for Pebble 2 at time of writing)
Cons
Scroll will is louder than I would have hoped
Review
Disclaimer: This review is for the original Pebble mouse. Logitech has since released the Pebble 2 with a few new features. I have not used it myself, but reviews are good and I would recommend grabbing the new version.
The Logitech Pebble has not left my office set since the day I found it. It’s a great example of simple, clean design that just works. It’s one of the thinnest mice I’ve used that still feels like a normal mouse. The left and right click buttons are incredibly quiet, which I appreciate for not annoying other people I work near, but still feel good. Even the case can be opened easily with a slick magnetic enclosure.
Connectivity is great - Bluetooth works well, and it even somehow manages to hide a USB transceiver adapter inside the case, so any USB-A (that’s the older rectangle-shaped one) port can connect. I have a much larger, more expensive Logitech mouse that I love, but even that one doesn’t have a little carrying-slot in it for the adapter like the Pebble does. And I think I’ve only changed the single AA battery once in the two years I’ve had it (they claim an 18-month life in the original Pebble, 24-month in the Pebble 2).
The only slight quibble I have is that while so much of the mouse is very quiet, the scroll wheel / middle button is kinda loud. It doesn’t bother me, but when I’m doing a lot of scrolling I sometimes feel self-conscious around other people. Realistically it’s probably not louder than any other mouse, it just seems loud compared to the silence this mouse typically lives in.
Conclusion
The best portable mouse I’ve used, I really can’t recommend it enough.
